While Buona has been celebrating National Beef Month and National Beef Day for three years now, it was in their 35th anniversary year that the approached Foodimentary, the authoritative source for recognizing holidays that celebrate various culinary delights, to create a national holiday to commemorate Chicago’s original Italian beef. They are thrilled to be celebrating the first officially recognized National Italian Beef Day, which falls on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. The company has given away over $20,000 in free Italian beef in years past.

In addition to free and discounted sandwiches, the company is providing entertainment for Harwood Heights guests while they’re waiting in line for their free sandwiches. Activities will include a police vs. firefighters beef-eating contest (the winner gets a $500 catering package from Buona), opportunities to win free beef for life, and meet and greets with the official Beef, Meatball and Combo sandwich mascot racers from Guaranteed Rate Field White Sox games.
