CHICAGO (September 27, 2018) — Gold Coast residents, business owners and neighboring communities are invited to attend the Division Street Merchants’ Hospitality Meeting at the popular neighborhood bar, She-nannigans (16 W. Division St.) on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at 3 p.m. Local business owners and residents will discuss pending issues within the community with special guest speaker, Mayoral Candidate Gery Chico. Gery Chico was born and raised in Chicago. A product of the city’s neighborhoods, Chico has lived in McKinley Park, Rogers Park, Edgebrook, Budlong Woods, the Near Westside and University Village. Chico’s experience and proven track record as a public servant make him battle-tested and ready to serve on his first day as Mayor of Chicago. Over the course of his career, Chico has answered the city’s call time and again, serving as:
- Mayoral Chief of Staff
- President of the Chicago Public Schools
- Chair of the City Colleges of Chicago
- President of the Chicago Park District
- Commissioner of the Public Buildings Commission
Chico and his wife, Sunny, are proud to say that they attended Chicago Public Schools, as did their children.
Division Street Merchants’ Hospitality Meetings are an important component of the community. Neighbors and business owners can come together in a comfortable setting to discuss pending issues regarding the hospitality industry with community leaders. Everything from new laws to regulations and security is on the table for discussion. Regular attendees include representatives from The Hospitality Business Association, The Illinois Restaurant Association, Alderman Brian Hopkins’ Office, The North Dearborn Association, The Gold Coast Neighborhood Association, Chicago’s 18th District Police Department, and The Magnificent Mile Association.
Upcoming 2018 year meetings will be held on November 7th and December 5th at She-nannigans.

The Division Street Entertainment District is one of Chicago’s most vibrant and historic nightlife destinations, with a variety of bars, restaurants and dance clubs lining the street. Located on Division Street between State Street and Dearborn, the area’s establishments are open late night. Over the years, Division Street has been a second home to entertainment icons including Lou Reed and the Velvet Underground, Koko Taylor, Lenny Bruce and Chaka Khan, and has long been the celebratory site for victorious Chicago sports teams including six basketball world championships, three hockey cups and the 1983 and 2005 baseball world championships.
The strip includes iconic spots like The Original Mother’s, Butch McGuire’s (the country’s very first singles’ bar), She-nannigans (a pioneer in hiring female bartenders), The Lodge Tavern and The Hangge-Uppe, as well as newer spots like Hopsmith, Mother’s Too, and the Island-inspired Coconutz.
She-nannigans is Chicago’s first bar to employ an all-female bartending staff. The lively sports bar, located on Division Street, makes the perfect spot for watching the game, listening to live music, playing darts, or simply sipping on a cocktail.
