Jersey Mike’s Introduces Gluten Free Sub Rolls Nationwide

Jersey Mike’s Subsknown for its fresh sliced/fresh grilled subs, is introducing gluten free sub rolls in all of its more than 1,300 locations across the country. After receiving positive reviews in test markets, Jersey Mike’s plans to launch the gluten free sub rolls beginning December 4.
Jersey Mike’s has partnered with Udi’s brand gluten free subs rolls, which are manufactured in Denver by Boulder Brands. Jersey Mike’s began testing the Udi’s gluten free rolls in 111 Los Angeles and 19 West Palm Beach locations last December.
“The idea of offering gluten free rolls came from a franchisee whose daughter had celiac disease,” said Michael Manzo, Chief Operating Officer, Jersey Mike’s Franchise Systems. “Before going national, we decided to try a pilot in several markets and we are happy to report success: customers loved the taste and they were excited to be able to eat a Jersey Mike’s sub sandwich again — or for the very first time.”
To prepare for the national launch, Manzo said the company is spending a lot of time training team members operationally how to carefully incorporate this new product into the business.
Udi’s gluten free sub rolls arrive at the restaurant individually wrapped and fully baked. The packaging is not opened until the sub is ordered and, as a result, there is little risk of cross contamination with other subs. Additionally, Jersey Mike’s team members wear new gloves when handling the rolls and use knives and other utensils that haven’t touched other bread products when slicing the gluten free rolls. They also prepare each sub on parchment paper to avoid contact with gluten.

Udi’s sub roll can be used as a substitute for most hot or cold subs on Jersey Mike’s menu (except items that contain gluten such as #15 Meatball and Cheese and #18 Chicken Parm), and can be made Mike’s Way® with the freshest vegetables – onions, lettuce and tomatoes – topped off with an exquisite zing of “the juice” – red wine vinegar and olive oil blended to perfection.
Udi’s won “Best of Gluten-Free” for their bagels, muffins, and sandwich bread loaf in 2012.
Started in 1956, Jersey Mike’s now has 1,500 restaurants open and under development nationwide. This year, Jersey Mike’s was named the country’s fastest-growing Limited Service Chain and fastest-growing sandwich chain in the 2017 Nation’s Restaurant News Top 100.
